Research title: Cognitive Training Based On Brain Metrics of Workload Measured Using Functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy: A Potential Alternative Treatment for Alzheimer’s Disease.

Research description: In this research we develop a novel technology to dynamically maximize benefits of cognitive training. In collaboration with The Dementia Society Perak, we attempt to decelerate the cognitive deterioration of Alzheimer’s disease using this technology. Our technology could be a potential alternative treatment for Alzheimer’s disease.

KALAI MYINTHTHEN is an undergraduate from Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), he is currently in the midst of completing his Bachelor of Social Science (HONS) Psychology programme. He aims to explore the world of Dementia to aid his future studies. Caring for the clients for the next 3 months (22 January 2018 – 20 April 2018) is going to help him to understand the needs of dementia patients. He also stated that he will give his utmost effort in assisting The Dementia Society Perak and also The Dementia Therapeutic Daycare Centre Ipoh in caring for the clients.

MATHIVANAN GANESAN, 4th year medical student with interest in Psychiatric is from Quest International University Perak, He did his elective posting (Internship) with The Dementia Society Perak for a month (21 August 2017 – 15 September 2017) . He stated that he is able to understand dementia patients better and how to care for them and the challenges they face in their daily routine. He also quoted that, “ As a medical student, The Dementia Daycare centre is doing a great job and is an established place for dementia patients as they help to decrease the downhill of the disease and I am happy to be one of them although for a short period of time. Thank you.”

AGGHELAN was born and brought up in Sg.Siput (U). He attended SMK Methodist Sg. Siput (U) before enrolling in SEGi College Subang Jaya. Currently he is pursuing Bachelor of Science in Psychology. He aims to learn more about Dementia and the clients’ behaviour. Serving the Dementia Therapeutic Daycare Centre for the period of 3 months (30 May 2017 -18 August 2017) has helped him in understanding more about the dementia clients needs and behaviour. He added that he likes cooking and also to make new friends.
