Who We Are

The Dementia Society, Perak is an established reputable organisation in the state of Perak, Malaysia since 2010. The organisation has its history that dates back to 2006, when a small support group for caregivers of People with Dementia ( PWD ) was founded by Prof. Dr. Esther Ebenezer and Mr. Oh Boon Lian a retired teacher as well as a caregiver to his wife.

The aim of the support group is to provide emotional support for the caregivers of PWD. A need was identified by caregivers to have a dementia day care centre. Fund raising activities and through various community donations and support enhanced the activities and aspirations of the Society.

The humble beginning of the Day Centre became reality when a family bungalow house was offered to the Society for a meagre sum to lease by the family of Mr. Tan Kean Beng in 2011. Later, the philanthropical generosity of the family of the late Dr. Lim Eng Cheang and his wife Bebe Lim donating a land and building package, has since transformed our organisation into what it is today with a state-of-the-art purpose-built Day Centre for people with dementia.

The Day Centre provides respite for carers of people with dementia to have their loved ones to be occupied with therapeutic activities to meet specific needs of people having dementia for the day. Dementia Society, Perak will continue to serve and provide the community with much needed support and education to understand the ravages of dementia and to assist them through the journey of their loved ones afflicted by the disease.

The Dementia Society, Perak was formed in 2010 to create public awareness of dementia and to provide assistance for People with dementia (PWD) and their caregivers.

Where We Go

One of the Dementia Society, Perak’s strategic plan is to build a purpose-built dementia specific residential home for people with severe dementia.
